Real life first name: Jason
Forum handle: Jedi-of-the-Hills
Main Character name: Rel Arasan
Server: Bria
Player Association: Duan Sun Brigands (Rover)
Where in the real life world do you live? Indiana, United States
How long have you played Star Wars Galaxies? I have played since launch, so going on four years now.
What other MMOs have you played? Wow, let's make a list: Ultima Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Asheron's Call, Asheron's Call 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, Earth and Beyond, Shadowbane, EVE Online, City of Heroes, and World of Warcraft. I've also beta tested several others.
What type of work do you do? Currently I am training in course administration, but I am attempting to break into the video game design business, specifically, working on MMOs.
How long is your typical gaming session when playing Star Wars Galaxies? My typical gaming session at the moment is not very long-- a few hours at the most. This is mostly due to work and other real-life concerns that keep me away. There were days when I would spend sun up to sun down in the world of SWG.
What does a typical Star Wars Galaxies day consist of for you? First, I determine who is online from my guild. Lately, Mirax is the first person I've been looking for because we've decided (for some reason) that we must push ourselves to the limit by performing the Operational Droid Factory instance as a 2-man group. If Mirax is on, we make the attempt. If not, I see who else is around and go from there. My day is never the same, I could be in space blasting Imperials into space dust or trying not to get burned to death on Mustafar, or anything in between.
What was the race and profession of your very first character? My very first character, Rel Arasan, is the character I still play today. He is also the only character I have apart from an alt I used to check out the first part of the Legacy quest. (I was a big fan of the idea of only having one character per server, and I took that to the next level by choosing to have only one character in the entire game.) He started out as a Scout in the early days of the game, dabbled a bit in pretty much every profession, and eventually became the Jedi he is today. I figure the character is as old as the game is, so he deserves to be a Jedi even though I never actually bothered to grind the village.
What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most? Nintendo got me into gaming, of course. My parents bought it when I was eight years old and I have been doing it ever since. (I am 27 now, for reference.) I think the games I've enjoyed the most in my tenure as a gamer have been those that permit you to be your *own* character in a universe the game makers provide. My favorite to this day is probably Baldur's Gate II. A direct tie with this one would be any of the Wing Commander series of games. I shot down more Kilrathi in my day...
What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other then playing Star Wars Galaxies? I enjoy creative writing of various kinds. I am probably one of the few people in the world who still role-plays in chat rooms, for instance. Other than that, I tinker with things. I designed a pair of sensor boxes for the Nintendo Wii, that work up to thirty feet away and at almost 90 degrees to either side of the TV screen. This was necessary because my cat ate the wire of the original sensor bar.
What is your highest level Character in Star Wars Galaxies? Rel Arasan is level 88.
What race and profession is your main character? My main character is a Human Jedi.
What do you like the most about the profession you have chosen for your main character? As a Jedi, I can take a lot of blaster fire from a huge number of targets. It makes me invaluable when I am in a group and there are going to be a lot of droids or storm troopers firing away at us. All I have to do is go in first, pick a target, pop Saber Block, and go to town. This keeps the rest of my group safe. We tend to have more fun if we do not have to wait around for ten minutes on the Corvette.
What faction is your main character? My main character is Rebel.
What is your favorite player owned ship? The Nova Courier is my favorite ship, no question. It has an excellent role-playing environment. I hear good things about the interior of the Y-8, but I have yet to acquire one for myself.
What is your favorite ground vehicle? The standard speederbike is my favorite. I do not care if they are not the fastest bike in the game (as they should be); I have loved them ever since I saw Return of the Jedi.
How did you choose your main character's name? I just sort of made it up, to be honest. I experimented with various sounds and whatnot.
Which professions in Star Wars Galaxies have you NOT played? I have not tried officer, commando, medic, entertainer, trader, smuggler, or bounty hunter. I tried spy after their revamp but quickly discovered my hands had developed a rather strong muscle memory for Jedi commands and I did not do so well…so I went back.
What is your favorite expansion? Jump to Lightspeed is easily my favorite expansion. Did I mention the Wing Commander games as being some of my favorites? Well, when Jump to Lightspeed went in, I was in heaven all over again. In addition, it was even better, because the character was *mine*, the ship was *mine*, the paintjob was *mine*... it was great.
What is your favorite planet? My favorite planet would probably be Corellia. I have a soft spot for it because it was there, in Doaba Guerfel, that my character started.
What is your favorite NPC? HK-47 is my favorite NPC.
Which expansion do you like the least? Rage of the Wookiees is my least favorite expansion. It was a good expansion, I just never cared about Kashyyyk that much.
Which planet do you like the least? My least favorite planet is Talus. It's a big, open space with not very much on it.
Which NPC do you like the least? The Meatlump King! If I ever get my hands on him...
What is the most credits you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters? I am currently in the process of saving up so that I can blow thirty million on a painting.
Do you have an item you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons? If so what is it and why do you keep it? I have an entire wardrobe of clothes and such that have no stats or attachments on them whatsoever. I have known many crafters over the years, and I keep the clothes so that I can still say to them, "I still have a pair of (insert clothing item here) you made three years ago!"
What do you like best about Star Wars Galaxies? What I like best about SWG are the friends I have made. Always, the best part of playing an MMO is finding those shining people you can truly connect with.
What do you get out of playing Star Wars Galaxies? I get the rush of battle, the wail of the blaster, the crack of the lightsaber, the fellowship of the aftermath, the backhand of my wife while she screams that it's three in the morning and to please log off because we have to work the next day. (Just kidding! I love you, sweetie!)
Describe your best experience playing Star Wars Galaxies? Easily the best experience I have ever had in the game was Jumping to lightspeed for the first time, in my own ship, in that amazing starscape.
Do you run or work for a Star Wars Galaxies Fan Site? No, but everyone feel free to check out www.brigands.org for our guild site! Yo ho, pirates!
